U.S. Import Rules Update (Effective August 29, 2025)
The United States has suspended duty-free “de minimis” treatment for low-value imports. As a result, U.S. orders may be assessed import duties and taxes regardless of order value. This follows earlier restrictions on certain origins and is now broadly applied. Final amounts are determined by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Who pays duties, taxes, and clearance fees?
We ship using DAP (Delivered at Place) terms. We cover international transportation to your delivery address. You (the importer) are responsible for any U.S. import duties, taxes, and customs clearance charges collected by the carrier upon or prior to delivery. Prices shown at checkout do not include these U.S. import charges.
What to expect at delivery
- The carrier (e.g., DHL/UPS/FedEx) may contact you to collect duties/taxes before delivery. (We use DHL as our courier)
- Additional customs screening is possible under the updated rules; allow extra time if CBP requests more information.
Food products (snacks, tea/matcha, etc.)
For any food items, we submit FDA Prior Notice before shipment. U.S. authorities may still request further details or inspection, which can delay delivery. If you are using a U.S. PO Box or forwarding service, please ensure they accept food shipments and can receive carrier/customs notifications.
Refused, unclaimed, or returned shipments
If duties/taxes are not paid or a delivery is refused, the parcel may be returned or abandoned by the carrier per their policy. If returned, we can issue a refund for the product price only, less:
- original and return shipping,
- customs/handling charged back to us, and
- a restocking fee (to cover inspection and processing).
- For safety reasons, food items are not eligible for restocking once dispatched.
